Rossana

Rossana is an agricultural centre on the right side of the river Torto. In 998 it belonged to the bishop of Turin and then became a fief of Guglielmo di Busca. Except for the brief periods it was under the dominion of Guglielmo di Busca and Barnabò Visconti, Rossana shared the fate of the Margraviate of Saluzzo. In the 18th century the Roero of Pralormo and the Counts Gazzelli had jurisdiction over it. Only a few ruins remain of the old castle that once dominated the town. The parish church, dedicated to the Ascension and built in the Gothic style in the 14th century, has a beautiful façade with a portal amidst double columns and remains of frescos. A baptismal font dating from 1447 is preserved inside the church. Rossana is the home of the mushroom and the chestnut and a fair on the first Sunday of October is dedicated to them, whereas the sad events of the partisans’ struggle are the topic of the Eco-museum of The Resistance in the district Grossa di Lemma.
